The Magic of Routine, Blended with the Power of Accountability

I don’t know about you, but I thrive on routine. I once read that the best things in life come in threes—and that’s why a 24-hour day ideally splits into three parts:
🔹 8 hours for work
🔹 8 hours for rest and sleep
🔹 8 hours for play, study, hobbies, or a part-time business

If I don’t discipline myself, someone else eventually will. But left to my own devices, I struggle with consistency. That’s where accountability becomes my secret weapon.

As an ID personality on the DISC scale (curious about that? [Read more here]), I tend to suffer from SOS—Shiny Object Syndrome. I get excited about new ideas but find it hard to stay focused unless I’m anchored by structure and support. That’s why I intentionally set up accountability groups to keep me on track.

A few years ago, I lived in the land of “Someday I will.”

  • I wanted to wake up early—someday I will.

  • I wanted to walk regularly—someday I will.

  • I wanted to grow spiritually—someday I will.

I was always postponing. Always procrastinating. Until one day, I’d had enough.

Then I came across a simple tip in Mel Robbins’ book The 5 Second Rule that changed everything: “Charge your phone in the bathroom.” Why? Because when the alarm rings in the morning, you have to walk there to turn it off. Once you’re up, splash your face with water—and boom, you’re awake. That small habit transformed my mornings.

Now, my routine and accountability groups keep me grounded and energized:

  • I start my day with prayer and fellowship in a morning intercession and Bible study group.

  • I join a few colleagues at 3 PM every day for a 30-minute workout.

  • I take part in a Samsung walking challenge to hit my daily 10,000 steps.

  • I’m part of a book club to encourage consistent reading.

These routines have boosted my productivity and happiness. I’m more focused, fulfilled, and fired up every day.

So now I’m curious—how do you incorporate routine and accountability in your life? Drop your thoughts in the comments. Let’s learn from each other!
